Two worn leather club chairs facing each other in a lamp-lit lounge, a lit cigar resting in a brass ashtray between them

Buy a cigar. Sit down. Stay a while.

A walk-in humidor, a real pipe counter, and a room full of leather chairs where nobody minds if you make an afternoon of it.

The humidor

A walk-in room lined in Spanish cedar, over 240 square feet of it, holding hundreds of cigars and kept near 70 degrees and 70 percent humidity, the way a humidor should be.

Walk the shelves yourself or ask. Questions are welcome here; answering them is most of the job.

If you would rather keep your cigars here than at home, lockers are available to rent.

On the shelves

  • Cigars

Hundreds of hand-rolled sticks in the humidor, singles and boxes, from the names you know and a few worth knowing.

  • Pipes and pipe tobacco

Briar pipes, tinned blends, and bulk tobacco weighed out by the ounce from the jars on the counter. This is what a lot of regulars drive in for.

  • Hookah and shisha

Hookahs, shisha, coals, and the parts that break.

  • Lighters, cutters, and the rest

Torch lighters, cutters, travel humidors, roll-your-own supplies, and whatever small thing you left at home.

Since August 2004

B & B Tobacco opened in the summer of 2004 because the Shenandoah Valley needed a real tobacconist: a proper humidor, someone behind the counter who smokes what he sells, and a chair you are welcome to sit in. Twenty-two years later, that is still the whole idea.

Brian Thomas owns the shop. He is usually the one walking people through the humidor or the pipe jars, whether they know exactly what they want or have never lit a cigar in their life. Ask him what he is smoking.

Buy something from the humidor, take a chair, and stay as long as you like. There is a TV, free Wi-Fi, seating in the front room and more in the back, and most Saturday mornings a few regulars who have been having the same argument since the shop opened.

Everyone 21 and over is welcome. First-timers especially.
